DOs & DONTs for Working During The Holidays

The holidays are a wonderful time to celebrate and enjoy friends and family. However, they can be full of tricky situations and varying expectations, especially with regards to the workplace. Here’s a list a quick list of DOs and DONTs to keep in mind this holiday season.

The DOs

  • Use holiday parties as an opportunity to network – It’s easy to just hang with your work BFF at the holiday parties but make an effort to branch out and talk to people who you don’t usually interact with. It will go a long way the rest of the year.
  • Schedule time to enjoy the holidays – Turn on the “Out of Office” notifications and take time to be with the ones you love. You can be better for your clients when you take time to recharge your batteries.
  • Send holiday cards or stop by – This is a great way to reconnect or let clients know you are thinking of them.

  • Assume your clients know which days you’ll be spending with family – Make sure your clients know ahead of time when you plan to be out of the office.
  • Get distracted by the holidays while you’re working – Set aside the appropriate time to focus on getting work done. This way when you are out celebrating your can really enjoy the most magical time of the year.
  • Talk about work – we have all year to do this. Take this time to get to know people on a more personal level.
  • Drink Too Much at Holiday Parties. More on that here.
